Joann Speck died peacefully in Waxahachie, Texas on Sept. 18, 2020 at the age of 86.

Joann is survived by her sister Lawanda Baugus, four sons; Greg, Gary, Glen and Grant, seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Grandson Leon preceded her in death in 2013.
Joann was born on Jan. 16, 1934 in South Bend, Texas to James Allen Gathings and Lillian PINKSTON Gathings. She graduated from Newcastle High School in 1952. In 1954 Joann married William Thomas Speck of Ennis, Texas. “Tommy” passed away in 1991.

Joann was the middle child in a family of seven siblings. Faith, love and hard work guided her from a very young age. Many times she spoke of milking cows in the morning at the family dairy before walking to school. Throughout her life, Joann stuck to what she learned as a child. She gave of herself and witnessed to so many over the years, always with a smile and words of encouragement. Many times I asked her, “Mother, don’t you think you have punched your ticket into Heaven by now”? She would smile and reply, “Son, it is not about that”. Today she has her reward and we are all so happy.

A visitation was scheduled for 11 a.m. Monday Sept. 21, 2020 at McMillan-Satterwhite Funeral Home in Graham, Texas with a service to follow at 1 p.m. at Gooseneck Cemetery. All were welcome to attend and celebrate Joann’s life.
