John Wendell (J.W.) Scott

John Wendell (J.W.) Scott was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Dec. 9, 1937 to Ora Earl and Carrie Etta Green Scott. He passed away at Graham Regional Medical Center Tuesday, Feb. 16, 2021 after a long fight with myelofibrosis. He was 83 years old.

John graduated from Broken Arrow High School in 1955 and attended Tulsa Technical Institute. He married his high school sweetheart Judith (Judy) Ann Lytle at First Christian Church, Broken Arrow, Oklahoma on Nov. 7, 1958. After beginning his career working for radio and electronics components manufacturers, he shifted to the aerospace industry. He worked for McDonald Douglas and North American Rockwell in Tulsa. In 1974 the family moved to Jamestown, North Dakota where he worked for Western Gear Corporation. In 1977, they moved to Graham, Texas where he went to work at Hexcel. In 1986 he went to work at LTV in Dallas. As an NC Programmer, he contributed to major projects for the military and commercial aircraft industries and NASA. He was especially proud to have been part of the development and construction of the B2 Stealth Bomber. In 1991 he returned to Graham where he worked for the Sheriff’s Office as a Deputy and later for the State of Texas as a Corrections Officer. He was involved in Ham Radio, Weather Spotting and was a 50 Year Mason as a member of the Masonic Lodge of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. He was also a member of First United Methodist Church of Graham. The son of a WWII veteran, John had a life-long passion for WWII history and the aircraft of that era.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Judy, and his children, Kerri and Dennis Davis of Graham, Rena and Greg Montgomery of Graham, and Jeff and Caroline Teel Scott of Austin.

Grandchildren are Blake and Jennifer Davis of Graham, Jessica and Jason Hausam of Rogers, Arkansas, Scott Montgomery of New York, New York, Sydney Montgomery and Hunter Hughes of Graham, Duncan Scott of Fayetteville, Arkansas, and Ella and Stuart Scott of Austin. The great-grandchildren are Braxton and Meara Davis of Graham, and Kayla, Lacy and Pierce Hausam of Rogers, Arkansas.  

He is also survived by several cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents and his grandparents, John and Verna Lowe Green who raised him after his parents died in his early teens.

The family is not planning any services due to COVID. Memorials may be made to Samaritans of First United Methodist Church, Virginia’s House Child Advocacy Center, both in Graham, Texas, or to MPN Research Foundation for further study of Myelofibrosis.
