Fri, 09/02/2016 - 3:18 pm
Joyce Jacobs Moriarty passed away Aug. 31, 2016 in Graham. A visitation will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 4, at St. Mary's Parish Hall in Graham, followed by a funeral Mass at 9:30 a.m. Monday, Sept. 5, 2016 at St. Mary's Catholic Church. She was born Feb. 4, 1934 in Texon, to Paul and Ilene Jacobs. She and her younger brother David had many fun times living in Big Lake, where her father and mother ran an insurance agency. Joyce attended the University of Texas where she fell in love with and married a UT football player, Mort Moriarty. She said she fell in love with him before she could pronounce Moriarty correctly. They welcomed their daughter Jill while both were attending school at UT. Later, Joyce worked as a bookkeeper in Mort’s physical therapy clinic and after Jill went off to college they welcomed their son Paul into their family. Mort and Joyce enjoyed many years watching their son play football. After everyone had left, Joyce found her true calling as a professional pet sitter in The Woodlands, a job she was made for. In 2004, she and Mort retired in Graham to be near her daughter Jill and family, and to watch their grandsons participate in athletics. In 2005 Mort passed away, but Joyce continued to stay active by volunteering at Pioneer Elementary, where she read to the kindergarteners for many years. She also was active in St. Mary’s church activities and meals on wheels. Survivors include her daughter, Jill Schmidt and husband Randy of Graham; son, Paul Morton Moriarty and wife Kristen of Magnolia; five grandchildren, Jake Schmidt, Dan Schmidt, Dalton Schmidt, Katelyn Moriarty and Kiley Moriarty; sister-in-law, Dolly Jacobs; and nieces, Jodi Klemstein, Jana Miller and Jill Aimes. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Humane Society of Young County, 120 Craig St., Graham, TX 76450 or to Meals on Wheels, PO Box 1655, Graham, TX 76450. McMillan-Satterwhite Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
