Katie Hoyt Scarborough Cain

Katie Hoyt Scarborough Cain passed away on Wednesday morning, Aug. 15, 2018, in Graham, where she lived for the past 20 years. She was born 97 years ago in Carlsbad, on May 11, 1921. Katie Hoyt was the fourth of five daughters born to Tom and Olivia Scarborough.

Katie was committed to her children, church and community and worked with her husband, Doyle Cain, in the family grocery and wholesale business. She graduated from Stephenville High School and attended Tarleton State College for three semesters before marrying Doyle in 1941 and moving to California to help win World War II. Outside four years in California and seven years in New Mexico, Katie spent her life in Texas and was proud of it. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Graham, but often worshiped at the First Presbyterian Church with her son, Tom, and his family.

Katie and Doyle were married for 69 years until his death in 2010. They had three sons Tom, Jerry and Doyle, Jr. Tom (Linda Fae), a resident of Graham, passed away one year ago. Jerry (Linda Lou) lives in Kearney, Mo. Doyle Jr., also known as Wili, lives in Alamogordo, N.M. Her sister, Jo Scarborough of San Angelo, is the last of the five Scarborough sisters. Katie is survived by four grandchildren and a gaggle of friends and distant relatives.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, Aug. 18, at McMillan-Satterwhite Funeral Home in Graham with burial in the Hico, Texas, Cemetery.
