Leonard Monroe Young, 92, of Graham passed away peacefully Jan. 18, 2019 in Graham. He was born Dec. 26, 1926 in Stamford to Leonard and Mary Leah Young.

He graduated from Avoca High School in 1944 and later served his country in the United States Army from March 2, 1945 until his honorable discharge as a Corporal on Sept. 21, 1949.
He married Mary White in Jan. 1945, and had three sons. He worked for Safeway Grocery for over 25 years of which he had fond memories. After Mary’s passing in Jan. 1996, Monroe once again found love and married Wynelle. These three had been childhood friends which created cherished memories full of fun and mischief and a few stories that they could share along the way. Their union fashioned an extended family in which “Roe,” as he was lovingly called, embraced as if they were his own. He loved his family, playing golf, fishing and a good game of dominoes or 42.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Mary Leah Young; his first wife Mary Frances Young; brothers Raymond, Lynn, Charles, Adrian Keith and three grandkids.
Monroe is survived by his wife Wynelle of Graham; a brother, Douglas of San Antonio; his sons, Butch and wife Janet of San Antonio; James and wife Irina or Sugarland; David and wife Lynn of Abilene, along with Mike and wife Lili Knight of Forney; Janice and husband Jimmy Senkel of Graham; Tommy and wife Sherry Knight of Graham; James and wife Linda Knight of Breckenridge, 15 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren, and six great-great grandchildren.

Monroe was a loving and devoted husband and father. All whom loved him dearly will never forget his smile, kindness, and his love of the Lord. He will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts.

Viewing was held from 1 until 3 p.m. at Elliott Hamil Funeral Home, 5701 Hwy 277 South in Abilene on Sunday, Jan. 20. Funeral services for Monroe were at Oak Street Baptist Church in Graham, TX Monday, Jan. 21 at 10 a.m. and he will be laid to rest in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Anson, TX at 2:30 p.m.
