Letha Pearl Hopkins passed away Aug. 12, 2019 in Gun Barrel City. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at McMillan-Satterwhite Funeral Home with interment following in Graceland Cemetery near Jermyn.

Letha was born March 14, 1933 in Lamesa and was a long-time resident of Bryson. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Bryson.

Growing up Letha was also known as Red and Freck but almost everyone, friends and family, knew her as Nan.

In the days before she went home, Letha was surrounded by her loving, caring family.

As she said goodbye, she had four generations there in her arms including her daughters Mary and Holly, her granddaughter Lisa and her great granddaughter Brooklyn.

She loved that she had a niece that was her namesake, Joyce Pearl. They were so very close.

She was happiest in her kitchen cooking biscuits and gravy.

She loved a cup of coffee and a cigarette on her porch in the quiet hours of early morning. I’m sure she and Papa are sharing a cup now.

She was blessed with a very large family. Some born into it, but many others were just chosen to be in the family. For instance, she loved Jason Harwell so much. He was always there for her when she needed help with Papa when he was so ill. Jason, even though she always called him Justin, meant so very much to her.
She was so close to her granddaughter, Lisa. They used to sneak down to the pond at the bird farm and fish and get into mischief and they really thought no one else knew.

She was such a caring, gentle soul. If you were in trouble or needed help she was always there. But don’t be fooled…that red hair was a warning that if you messed with her loved ones you better beware.

She has always been the strong one. The rock for all the rest of us.

Survivors include: Her children, Mary James and her husband, Larry, Tiffany Franklin, Bert Douglas Hopkins and wife Jenny, Donetta Duncan and husband Lawrence, Lenetta Bourque and husband Blair, Calvin Hopkins, Robert Hopkins and wife Kelly, Anthony Salazar and wife Melanie and so many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; Her Sisters, Connie Reynolds, Juliana Shotwell, Fanny June Hunter; she was preceded in death by her first Husband Edwin Marlette ( Shorty) Franklin and her husband for 46 years Bert Elijah Hopkins; Three sons, Rickey Lee Franklin, Donnie Hopkins, John Hopkins; Sisters, Pauline Fore, Leeatta Peacock Grove, Eva Mae Cole; Brothers, Jack Dalton Hand, Louis Sherwood (Red) Hand, Miriam Joe Hand, Jeff David Hand.
