Mable Irene Jennings Harrelson

Mable Irene Jennings Harrelson was born in Jean on Jan.13, 1931, to Curtis and Alice Jennings. She passed away July 7, 2017 in Mesquite, after fighting a long battle with Parkinson's disease. Upon graduation from Graham High School in 1948, she moved to Dallas to join her sister Mary and other friends at a boarding house in Oak Cliff. She soon became acquainted with Wayne Harrelson and they fell in love and then married Nov. 24, 1949. Her greatest pleasure in life was raising five daughters and caring for her three grandchildren. She was a homemaker for many years and also worked as a bookkeeper. Mable was a long-time member of Oates Drive Baptist Church in Mesquite and was very active in the activities there. She loved her many friends and enjoyed traveling with them numerous times over the years. She was also an avid reader and loved chocolate. Mable was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Charley Jennings; sister, Mary Arrington; and son in-law, Joey Rhode. She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Wayne Harrelson; daughters, Connie (Sam) Rutledge, Catherine Harrelson, Annette Rhode, Sheri Harrelson and Vicki (John) Ballard; grandchildren, Melissa McGrath, Brad Harrelson and Sean Rutledge; brother, James Jennings; and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation is Thursday, July 13, from 6-8 p.m. at Grove Hill Funeral Home, 3920 Samuell Blvd. in Dallas. Her funeral is Friday, July 14, at 10 a.m. at the funeral home. A committal service will be held Friday, July 14, at Loving Cemetery in Loving.
