Nancy Jean Ustick, 65, of Graford, died June 7, 2017, after a long illness. She was a resident of Graford for over 15 years. Nancy was born June 2, 1952, in Adrian, Michigan. She graduated from Grosse Ile High School in Grosse Ile, Michigan. She received her bachelor of science degree from Michigan State University, and she was a flight attendant for American Airlines, traveling the world for 37 years before retiring. Nancy was a very special person, fierce in defense of the defenseless: abandoned animals, the abused, and the environment. Trees and animals spoke to her tender heart. She never failed to stop on the highway to pick up a turtle to move it safely to the other side, or to wrap up a discarded kitten and take it to the vet. As a child, she would pick up struggling earthworms from sidewalk puddles after rainstorms and place them in the grass. Nancy was a spiritual person who believed in miracles and the basic goodness of all. She had a zest for life and viewed it as a supreme adventure. Nancy's greatest love was and is her daughter Adriana, of whom she was justifiably proud. Nancy was a loyal and loving mother, sister and friend. She is sure to be welcomed to the next life with love and adoration by all creatures great and small. Nancy is preceded in death by her parents, Nicholas and Ruth (Otto) Ustick of Naples, New York. She is survived by her daughter, Adriana, age 16; siblings, Kathleen Leonardson (husband Daniel Leonardson) of Marblehead, Mass., and Douglas Ustick (wife Sandy Astrup Ustick) of Houston; four nieces and a nephew; and many dear and supportive friends, including Kristin Ruth and Kim Baxter. A memorial service is planned for a later date. Donations in memory of Nancy may be made to the college fund for her daughter, Adriana, c/o Estate of Nancy Ustick, Attn: D. Ustick, 6363 Woodway Dr., Ste. 730, Houston, TX 77057, or to the animal shelter of your choice.
