Richard Lee Rogers

Richard Lee Rogers, age 77 of Breckenridge, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2019. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, Feb. 1 at First United Methodist Church with Matt Hall officiating. Visitation will be held Thursday, Jan. 31 from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Chapel of Memories at Melton-Kitchens Funeral Home.

Richard Lee Rogers was born Jan. 17, 1942 in Breckenridge to Ray and Joy Rogers. He married his loving Sandra Blackburn April 8, 1966 in Breckenridge. He had the privilege of being on the Breckenridge 1958 State Football Championship Team.

Richard attended Tarleton State University in Stephenville earning a BS Degree in Education. During his college years he played football for Tarleton and was named an MVP recipient. Dick enjoyed many years of coaching high school football in Texas making a large number of lifetime friends. Throughout his life, he was honored to serve in the following clubs/groups; Texas High School Coaches Association for 35 years, ATPE teachers organization, Retired Teachers of Texas. He served on various committees at the 1st United Methodist Church, and was a member of The Oilbelt Senior Golf Association and local golf clubs. Richard is survived by his wife of 52 years, Sandy Rogers, two daughters; Margaret and husband, Keith Neill of Fort Worth, Elizabeth Rogers of Fort Worth, sister, Raylene Darnell of Cedar Town, Ga. and two grandchildren; Grant and Brent Neill. He was preceded in death by his parents and son, Richard Brent Rogers.

Memorials may be made to the local Breckenridge Senior Citizen center and West Texas Rehabilitation Center and may be left at the Melton-Kitchens Funeral Home office. Condolences may be made online at www.meltonkitchens.com.
