Susan Schimelpfenig Dixon

Susan Schimelpfenig Dixon, 89, passed away Saturday, Dec. 1, 2018 in Wichita Falls. Graveside service will be held Wednesday, Dec. 5, at 10:30 a.m. in Oak Grove Cemetery. A memorial service will follow at 11 a.m. in the First United Methodist Church under the direction of Morrison Funeral Home.

Susan was born Nov. 2, 1929 in Plano to Will and Effie (Davis) Schimelpfenig. She grew up in Plano and started taking piano lessons in the second grade and climbing trees even earlier. She loved the outdoors and all her happy times with a neighborhood of friends. She graduated from the University of North Texas School of Music after majoring in Music Education. After teaching in Dallas Public School for a year, she married Melvin L. Dixon on July 5, 1952. They moved to Pecos where she taught second grade for three years. Then they moved to Graham and she taught first grade. After Graham, they moved to Bogota, Columbia where their children were born. When Don was a baby they were transferred to Eastern Venezuela. They loved their life in South America, the USA was home. After a few years in Graham, Mel was asked to return to Ecuador, where they lived in Quito for a year. Then they made their permanent home in Graham in 1986. Susan was a very active member of the First United Methodist Church where she was a Stephen Minister, member of United Methodist Women and the Samaritans.

Survivors include: daughter, Ann Boydston and husband, Steve of Graham; son, Don Dixon and wife, Jackie of Roanoke; grandchildren, Matthew Boydston, Leah Boydston, Jade Kowalkowski, Jennifer Dixon, and Nolan Dixon.
