Walter Kenneth Moore, 83, passed away Saturday, Sept. 24, at his home in Graham, with his love, Beth Beggs, at his side.

Ken Moore was born in Mineral Wells, to Walter Eddis Moore and Lura Lee Kayser Moore on Aug. 21, 1939. For many years he worked in hotel management starting at the age of 17 in the Baker Hotel, in Mineral Wells. He married Lucille Downey on Nov. 17, 1962. He served in Dallas at The Stoneleigh Hotel, San Antonio at the Gunter, and other hotels and motels across Texas. He and his wife managed several restaurants. He worked for many years as a chef offshore in the oil business and worked many years at the Abilene State Hospital in food management. Ken retired after the death of his wife and later moved to Lake Graham where they had always hoped to live after retirement.

He loved living at the lake surrounded by some wonderful new friends and sadly had to sell his home and move to town when his health deteriorated. He lived his last years with his dog and his best friend, Beth Beggs. There they lived a life of song, funny stories, and service to their community.

He was always active in his church work taking leadership roles in the Episcopal Churches across South Texas, the Lutheran Church in Abilene, and in the Presbyterian Church in Graham. He held positions as leader for services and Sunday school, choir member and soloist.

Wherever he was living he always volunteered to entertain in nursing homes and retirement centers. He had a lovely voice, appreciated by all.

Ken is survived by four brothers: Charlie Moore of Cleburne, Donald Moore of Hollywood, Calif., Robert Moore of Lake Palo Pinto, and John Moore of Morgan Mill. His only sister, Alice Beth Ratcliff, passed away several years ago. Although he didn’t have children of his own, he considered his nieces and nephews as very special parts of his life.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 1 at the First Presbyterian Church, 1400 Randy Drive, in Graham.
