Newcastle ISD has found someone to take the reign of Bobcats football and they did not have to look far. When two-a-days start Aug. 1, Defensive Coordinator Isiah Archer will be the one leading the team. Archer was promoted to replace head coach and athletic director Julian Menchaca, who left Newcastle after four seasons to be the next head football coach and athletic director at Vernon Northside.

Menchaca led the Bobcats to a 22-21 record and two playoff appearances during his time in Newcastle. Archer takes over the Bobcats after head coaching stints at Rule, Southland and Lorenzo.

Going back to his high school playing days at Motley County, Archer is no stranger to success. As a 2007 Motley County State Title Team member, Archer rushed for 1,360 yards and 30 touchdowns that season. Following high school, Archer attended West Texas A&M University in Canyon.
