As practice begins for the upcoming UIL sports season, the accolades continue to roll in from the previous season. Last Thursday, Corey Ballew was named to the Texas Sportswriters Association 4A All-State Baseball Team. Ballew earned Third Team All-State for his play at third base and Honorable Mention as a pitcher.

Ballew was 10-2 in 13 starts this season. He held batters to a .203 average when he was on the mound. In total, he faced 296 batters, gave up 57 hits, while striking out 80. He finished the season with an ERA of .972.

“(I am) happy for him this his season and hard work was recognized,” Former Steers coach Jim Bob Williams said. “Being on the TSWA All-State (list) is a great accomplishment. It was really special that he was awarded for both his pitching and positional play as well. A big part of those accomplishments being recognized is the season the team had. (This year) was an outstanding year by him and his teammates.”
