NEWCASTLE - It’s been said before that speed kills, and Friday afternoon saw Newcastle fall victim to plenty of it.
Knox City’s Greyhounds used a balanced scoring attack along with a fast-paced offense to overwhelm the Bobcats and win 77-34.
Tuesday night was to bring the visit of Aspermont to Newcastle High School.
Early in the first quarter, the Bobcats struggled to get a rhythm against the Greyhounds, down 9-2 at the 4:45 mark.
However, things started to swing in the favor of Newcastle. The lead was cut to 12-8 with 2:17 left in the first, but a 7-3 run put the Greyhounds ahead at 19-11 going into the second.
Just before halftime, Knox City turned up the offense and increased their advantage with a 28-13 run, to lead 47-24.
In the third quarter, the Greyhounds kept up their rapid pace, scoring 19 more points while holding the Bobcats to just six.
Newcastle went into the fourth down 66-30, and managed just four points in the final frame of the contest.
Gage Bozeman led the Bobcats with 19 points in the game.
