The Newcastle Bobcats continued their season with their first non-tournament matchup against the Nocona Indians.
Unfortunately for the Bobcats, they were not able to pick up the victory losing 83-23.
The matchup took place Tuesday, Dec. 9 and despite the loss there were still solid contributions offensively from the team.
The Bobcats found themselves in a hole early trailing 24-9 after quarter one and 46-11 at halftime.
In the first quarter, Ryder Ebert, Cooper Clayton and Jacob Omundi each hit midrange jumpshots to open the scoring. Clayton added to the scoring total with a free throw at the foul line.
Omundi was the lone scorer for the Bobcats in the second quarter with a two point jumper.
After three quarters, the Bobcats trailed the Indians 59-17. Omundi hit another two point jumpshot in the quarter and Clayton as well as Rylan Hinojosa combined for four points on free throws. Clayton and Hinojosa both hit two free throws each.
The Bobcats scored six more points in the fourth quarter, but by then Nocona was already firmly in the lead leading to Newcastle’s loss.
Ebert hit a three pointer from beyond the arc and Clayton added a midrange jumper. Hinojosa added the final point on the night for the Bobcats with a free throw.
Clayton led the team in scoring for the game with seven points while Omundi was right behind him with six points and Ebert had five points.
Hinojosa had three points on three free throws and Joey Soito also had two points. After a tournament in Lingleville over the weekend, the Bobcats pick it up at 5 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 16 on the road against Eula.
The Bobcats will look to get back on track as they progress into the season.
