Bobcats, Ladycats earn multiple All-District awards

The Newcastle Bobcats and Ladycats football and volleyball teams ended their respective seasons in the last month. Each found various amounts of success throughout the year.

With the amount of success Newcastle saw this year, the Bobcats and Ladycats earned a host of All-District selections and postseason awards for their play.

Bobcats football

To start things off, the Newcastle coaching staff earned Six-Man Coach of the Year for District 8-1A Division II. The Newcomer of the Year in the district was freshman Keyton Newland.

On both sides of the ball, the Bobcats earned multiple awards. On offense, senior Isaac King earned Offensive MVP in the district and a handful of other players won 1st Team All-District selections at their positions.

Senior Ty Strawbridge earned 1st Team at tight end and as kicker, junior Lucas Owen was 1st Team at center, sophomore Tristan Clemons was 1st Team at running back and sophomore London Martinez earned 1st Team at utility back.

On defense, Isaac King showed out on that side of the ball and won Defensive MVP in the district in addition to his Offensive MVP award. Ty Strawbridge and fellow senior Jaren Beaver earned 1st Team selections as a defensive linemen and Keyton Newland earned a 1st Team selection as cornerback.

For 2nd Team All-District, junior Gaidan Turner earned a selection as tight end, Jaren Beaver as a fullback and freshman Rylan Hinojosa as special teams player. On defense, Tristan Clemons earned a spot as defensive lineman, senior Kenny Jones as a cornerback, London Martinez as a safety and senior Dylan Johnson as a utility player.

Senior Julian Jimenez and junior Ben Burk were named Honorable Mentions All-District.

Ladycats volleyball

The Ladycats took three of the highest awards available in District 11-1A. Senior Mya Cabrera was named Overall MVP of the district, senior Destiny Newland earned the Offensive MVP award and sophomore Flor Carranza won Defensive MVP.

Three Newcastle sophomores represented the Ladycats with 1st Team All-District selections: Aubree Clayton, Emma Hawkins and Sophie Terrell. For 2nd Team All-District, senior ToriLee Duffield and freshmen Camren Mallory and Kenzie King earned spots.

Senior Lenaya Gonzalez and freshman Kinzee Forbus were Honorable Mentions All-District. Mya Cabrera, Camren Mallory and Kinzee Forbus were named Academic All-District, as well.
