The Newcastle Bobcats were originally scheduled to play a game this past weekend against Wichita Falls Christian, however that game was canceled.
Due to this, the team has no choice but to continue looking forward to future opponents on their schedule. The very next game for the Bobcats will be a pivotal one as it is the team’s final game before district play begins.
That game will take place at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 3, against Jayton at home.
On top of this game being a tone setter for Newcastle as they head into district play, this can also serve as an early dose of tough competition for what things may look like if the team hopes to go on a deep postseason run.
The Jaybirds are undefeated on the season so far with a perfect 5-0 record. Their most recent win came against Hermleigh in their matchup Thursday, Sept. 25, where Jayton blew out their opponent 58-0.
The Jaybirds have also only not scored 50 or more points once this year in their closest bout against Ira where Jayton won 36-16.
The Bobcats suffered their first loss of the season against May in their matchup Friday, Sept. 19, but that doesn’t mean they’re anything to brush over either.
Prior to their loss, the team had yet to let up a single point defensively while also putting up dominant scores like a 73-0 win against Crowell and a 63-0 win against Gold-Burg.
This matchup should prove to be a good test for the Bobcats heading into district and seeing how they bounce back from a high scoring loss.
The team also has plenty of veteran playmakers who are versatile on both sides of the ball who can lead them deep this season.
