The Newcastle Bobcats continued their hot streak to begin the year, defeating the Gold-Burg Bears and remaining undefeated at 3-0.
For the third straight week, the Bobcats also held their opponent to a shutout.
As has been the case frequently for the Bobcats to start this season, the defense set the tone throughout the contest.
The team scored multiple defensive touchdowns off of players like Mikey Soito and Keegen Voyles.
Soito recorded an interception for a touchdown while Voyles recorded an interception and a fumble to go along with his defensive touchdown.
Joey Soito and London Martinez also recorded interceptions on the night, while Peyton King also recorded a fumble on the night.
Rylan Hinojosa, Keyton Newland and Martinez all led the way in assisted tackles, picking up five, four and three, respectively.
On offense, the team was led by Martinez in the passing game as well. While Martinez didn’t light up the charts offensively, his one pass completion on the night certainly made an impact.
Martinez had a 24-yard connection to Cooper Clayton for a touchdown to add to the blowout the team put on the Bears.
Voyles and Mikey Soito added to their impact on the defense by making the most of their carries offensively in the rushing game.
A highlight play on the night was Voyles' one carry, which went for 45 yards and a touchdown, while Soito had a few more touches with four.
While his longest run was only for 13 yards, Mikey Soito also scored a touchdown in the performance to pile onto the Bobcats' huge lead.
One of head coach Isiah Archer’s biggest points of emphasis for the Bobcats so far this season has been to set the tone with high energy throughout each contest the team plays in. So far, they haven’t skipped a beat as they will continue to battle at their best.
The Bobcats pick things up again Friday, Sept. 19, on the road against May at 7 p.m.
