Bobcats shut out Buffaloes, named bi-district champions

The Bobcats meant business in their first round playoff matchup against the Petersburg Buffaloes, blowing out their opponent 73-0. 

Newcastle made quick work of their opponent Friday, Nov. 14 in a mercy rule win that was over by halftime. 

The team was dominant in their usual facets of play. The Bobcats had multiple rushing touchdowns to set the tone early and even had a pick six in the first quarter to help them take advantage early. 

The Bobcats used all ends of the field to control the clock and pick up scores on the ground. Newcastle already put the Buffaloes in an early hole leading 39-0 after the first quarter. 

Following this, the Bobcats put up 34 more points in the second quarter in order to make sure that this game wouldn’t even see the second half. 

The Bobcats area round matchup will take place at 6 p.m. Friday, Nov. 21 against the Water Valley Wildcats at Baird High School.

The Bobcats will certainly have a test in this matchup as it will be a battle of the top teams in their respective districts. 

The Wildcats finished the season with an undefeated record of 11-0 including going 4-0 in district play. 

The Bobcats finished the season with an 8-2 record and also went 4-0 in their district. However, the Bobcats had the edge in their performance over their Bi-District opponent. 

Newcastle was able to pull off a shutout in their postseason opener. While Water Valley also had an impressive victory, they did surrender 14 points to their opponent while only scoring 62 points on the night. 

The Bobcats will be competing to continue their run in the playoffs against a tough opponent.
