The Newcastle Bobcats football season officially came to an end in their area round matchup against the Water Valley Wildcats.
The team had a lot of success this season and that was recognized with district awards for players and coaches.
The Bobcats’ final game of the season took place Friday, Nov. 21 where the Wildcats beat the Bobcats 64-29.
This capped off a season where Newcastle went 8-3 while also finishing at the top of their district with an undefeated 4-0 record against district opponents.
At the top of the hierarchy for any team is its coaching staff and Newcastle’s was recognized for its excellence with the coach of the year award.
Two members of the Bobcats roster also took home district offensive and defensive most valuable player awards.
On the offensive side was London Martinez and defensively that honor went to Keyton Newland.
Many on the team received first team all district selections as well.
Jayden Hemby received first team all district honors at the center position while Mikey Soito was recognized as a first team fullback and linebacker.
Keegen Voyles continued this trend, being recognized as a first team receiver offensively and safety defensively.
Cooper Clayton also received all district honors as a first team offensive lineman at the noseguard position.
Rylan Hinojosa followed this up with first team quarterback honors as well as being recognized as a first team defensive lineman.
Leighton Gowens was named a first team spread rusher, while Martinez and Newland added additional hardware to their offensive and defensive most valuable player awards.
Martinez was additionally recognized as a first team defensive lineman and punter while Newland added first team running back and kicker honors to his name.
The awards were rounded out with second team all district selections as well as all star selections.
Joey Soito and Gowens took home the two second team honors awards with Soito being named a second team cornerback and Gowens being named a second team offensive lineman. Mikey Soito and Martinez were also named district all star selections.
