Bobcats survive scare from district rival Bryson Friday

Momentum can change at any time in a football game. For Newcastle, that situation came in the second-half Friday against Bryson at Bobcat Stadium. A struggling Cowboy team took a 24-20 lead into halftime, but the Bobcats were able to score 34 points in the third and fourth quarters to run away with a 54-30 victory. With the win, Newcastle extends its winning streak to six games, while Bryson dropped its sixth in a row and remain winless in district play.

J.D. Brice topped the 1,500-yard mark and 30 touchdown plateau, in just his ninth game this season. Brice managed to pile up 299 yards, 240 yards rushing on 31 carries and five touchdowns on the ground. The junior also threw for a pair of touchdowns.

Brice began the game with a 15-yard touchdown but the lead was short-lived. Bryson took an 8-6 advantage on a 7-yard pass from Harley Hammond to Tristan Stephens with 5:11 to play in the opening quarter. The Cowboys went ahead by two scores...
