Bryson Cowboys lead East to blowout Saturday

Jason Briles admitted that he wouldn’t be where he is without the production he has received from Brayden Houser and Paul Davidson.

It showed exactly why Saturday evening at Memorial Stadium in Wichita Falls. Houser threw for 235 yards and five touchdowns to lead the East to a dominating 56-24 win over the West in the Texas Six-Man Coaches Association Division I all star-game.

The Bryson duo torched the West secondary all evening. Houser, the starting signal-caller for Briles’ squad, was named Offensive MVP after competing 16 of 26 passes. Playing in his final game for the Bryson coaching staff, Houser said that they were able to use their strengths and their game plan to get past their opponent.

“Our spread offensive was really working for us tonight,” Houser said. “They were big, but a little slower than us on defense and we were able to find the holes and get past them.”

Led by Briles and his assistant coaches Hunter Hayes and Brent Tuel, it marked the first time the East had been on the winning side of the scoreboard since 2010 in the TSMCA DI matchup. It was easy to see from the start, that the West had no answer for the Bryson duo.

The West took an early 6-0 lead by scoring on the first possession on Borden County’s Nick Proulx 3-yard touchdown, but the East dominated from there.

Briles staff was designed with the task of stopping back-to-back state champion, Borden County’s dynamic duo of Proulx and Trace Richey. Richey was named the TSMCA DI Player of the Year last season, while Proulx earned DI Offensive MVP.

However, the East defense limited the Borden County superstars to just 52 combined rushing....
