Rusty Jones and Slade Egan will be the Bryson Cowgirls and Cowboys next head basketball coaches respectfully with the pair taking on other duties throughout the program.

“I am really excited about the coaching staff we have assembled this year,” Bryson Athletic Director Jason Briles said. “I think coach Egan and coach Jones are seasoned guys and they are going to bring a lot to the table.”

Cowgirls

Jones will be replacing outgoing coach Gary Kirby, who was recently named as principal of Bryson High School. Kirby led the team to the area round of the state tournament before a 44-33 loss to Saltillo.

Jones said he is coming to Bryson after spending the previous four years in Tokyo as his wife was the autism specialist for all the military schools in Japan.

Cowboys

Egan will be replacing Bryson Football’s defensive coordinator Hunter Hays as the next coach of Cowboys basketball. The Cowboys did not advance to the playoffs last season.

“I’m coming from Paint Rock, that was my first coaching job there,” Egan said. “Before that, I spent two years as a student assistant at Angelo State University and before that I was in the Navy for four years.”
