The Bryson Cowboys maintained their undefeated status Friday night when they beat Brookesmith 52-6. The game ended at the half thanks to the 45-point mercy rule, a rule the Cowboys have incited in three of their four wins. All four of quarterback Brayden Houser’s completions were for touchdowns, three to Paul Davidson. Houser finished the game with 186 passing yards and added 80 rushing yards with a touchdown on the ground. Davidson carried the ball only once, a 10-yard touchdown run, but each of his three receptions found the end zone and resulted in 119 receiving yards. With 39.6 yards per catch, Davidson proved to be the ultimate deep threat through the air, and running back Ethan Robinson was the equivalent on the ground. Robinson carried the ball seven times for 118 yards and a touchdown. While Davidson’s average yards per catch was impressive to say the least, he was outdone in that category by Paxton Whitaker whose lone reception came in the form of a 65-yard touchdown. Defensively, Codie McBride led the Cowboys with 13 tackles. After the game, Bryson head coach Jason Briles bragged on their opponent. “Brookesmith was a classy bunch,” he said. “Their kids played hard.” As for his own players, Briles was happy about the execution and the pace. “The game went as planned,” he added, “We played fast. We didn’t let up and got out of there in just one half.” The Cowboys play Woodson Friday at home. That game is scheduled kickoff at 7:30 p.m.
