Bryson preparing for Thursday opener

The Bryson Cowboys will get a short week before preparing for their season-opening game Thursday.

Head coach Jason Briles and the Cowboys are set to face Waco Methodist Children’s Home in a neutral site matchup to kick off the 2018 season.

Bryson hosted a three-team scrimmage Friday against Rule and Azle Christian to get in one final tuneup before facing a talented Bulldogs team.

“We still have work to do with little time to do it,” Briles said following Friday’s scrimmage. “I was confident in our defense earlier, but looked a little shaky after tonight. We need some leaders to step up. We have some positives and negatives from the scrimmage but are going to correct them on film and get ready for a scrappy state title defender.”

After earning a district title a season ago, this year’s Cowboys team will feature several newcomers. The likes of Drake Huffman, Landon Stephens and T.J. Imotichey are expected to get several minutes of playing time after contributing to the junior varsity a year ago.
