BOYD - During the course of a playoff game, momentum can swing from one team to another in an instant.
This was a harsh lesson the Bryson Cowgirls volleyball team learned Saturday afternoon in the area round of the playoffs against the Avalon Lady Eagles.
Ahead 24-20 in the second set, Bryson failed to finish off Avalon and even the match, as the Lady Eagles stormed back with six straight points and eventually finished off a sweep of the Cowgirls, ending their season at the Boyd High School Gymnasium.
In the opening set of the match, the Cowgirls found themselves down 5-2 early on, but managed to find their way back to a 5-5 tie.
Despite staying within striking distance throughout the remainder of the set, the Cowgirls never took the lead against the Lady Eagles and were eventually beaten 25-21.
Bryson managed to take its first lead of the match in the second set at 11-10, before the Lady Eagles reclaimed the lead at 12-11.
It looked as though the Cowgirls were hitting all the right notes when they regained the lead at 14-13, and went on a 6-1 run to expand the advantage to 20-14.
With the score at 24-20 in favor of the Cowgirls, Avalon head coach Tony Hernandez called a timeout.
