Once again Burkburnett had Graham’s number on the basketball court Friday night. The Lady Blues had their senior night spoiled by the No. 20 Lady Bulldogs, while the Steers pushed the No. 18 Bulldogs to the limit before falling. Burkburnett 56, Graham 35 Any hopes the Lady Blues had of causing chaos in district 6-4A went up in flames early on. Burkburnett clinched their fourth straight district title with a blowout victory. As for the Lady Blues, they needed a victory over Iowa Park Tuesday night or a Hirschi defeat to Burkburnett to claim second in district 6-4A. A lackluster first quarter performance set the tone for the game. Graham got to within one at 4-3 with 5:51 left in the opening frame. Unfortunately, the Lady Blues never got any closer. Burkburnett ended the first on a 13-4 run to take a 17-7 lead into the second quarter. Before the break, the Lady Bulldogs continued to extend their advantage. Graham could only manage 10 points going into halftime as Burkburnett widened its lead to 30-17. If the first half was bad, the second half was worse. Graham had another single-digit quarter with nine points. The Lady Blues didn’t score their first points of the third until the 4:21 mark with two free throws to make the score 41-19. Meanwhile, the Lady Bulldogs’ offense kept rolling with 16 points, making their lead 46-26 after three quarters. For the rest of this story, subscribe to our print or online edition.
