It’s a week a lot of high school football fans have been waiting for since Dave Campbell’s Texas Football Magazine hit the newsstands in June. It’s the battle between the Steers and Bobcats to settle who’s top in Dist 3-4A Div II. The Steers and Bobcats were tabbed the two top teams in the district and they both have lived up to the hype coming into Friday’s game with perfect district records. The Steers, with a win over Bridgeport in week one of district play, are at 1-0, while the Bobcats, with wins over Iowa Park and Bridgeport, are at 2-0. The Steers will put their high-flying passing attack – scoring 36 points a game – up against the Bobcats’ 37 points a game. Steers are lead on offense by the triples of quarterback Tucker Horn, averaging 232 yards passing per game, running back Jaxon Brockway, rushing for 118 yards a game, and wide receiver Adam Groves, picking up 143 yards receiving against the Bulls. The Steers’ massive offensive line has jelled and opens running lanes for Brockway and keeps Horn protected, giving him time to deliver the ball. The Steers’ defense has been anchored by the “Jack Attack” – Jack Hayes and Jack Lowery at the ends – and Joel Jones leading linebacking crew with 61 tackles along with Payton Johnston with 52 and Will Hayes with 51. The defensive backfield, lead by Evan Sharub with three interceptions on the year, will have Krum’s attention for sure. Krum is 6-1 on the year with their only loss coming against Sanger. The Bobcats have put up 147 points in the first two games of district play while giving up 88. Krum will bring in a attack that has laid 1,229 yards total offense on their first two district foes, Iowa Park and Bridgeport. For the rest of this story, subscribe to our print or online edition.
