GHS Cross Country runs at Merkel

Graham Cross Country took to the course at Merkel Wednesday for the Merkel Invitational. The Lady Blues competed in a pool of 138 runners and 17 teams with a team finish of 8th place. The Steers ran against 13 teams in a race with 145 runners and finished sixth overall.

Marcos Herrera was the Steers’ top runner with a sixth overall finish at 18:29.51. His season-best is 17:08.55 at Lipan last week. Herrera’s personal best is 17:01.68, which he ran at the Seymour Invitational last year.

Holton Weatherman finished 24th overall as the second-fastest runner for the Steers. He ran a time of 20:11.23. Christian Coyac also ran in the 20-minute range with a time of 20:56.03 for 34th place. Ben Williams competed in his first meet this year and finished 70th with a time of 22:08.44. Nathan Palacios, the lone freshman runner in the varsity race for the Steers this week, finished 75th with a time of 22:31.05. Sophomores Levi May (22:47.49), Guerin Pettus (23:02.82) and Keion Shead (23:52.68) finished 79th, 85th and 105th.
