Gilmore carries Steers past Bulls
Chase Gilmore could not be stopped on Friday night. The senior running back torched the Bridgeport Bulls for a new season high 251 yards and four touchdowns en route to a 35-17 win on the road.
The victory marked the fourth in a row for the Steers after opening the season with three straight losses. Trailing 7-0 with 1:01 left in the opening quarter, Gilmore accounted for touchdown runs of 3, 42, 2 and 3 yards over four quarters to lift Graham to an impressive victory over a Bridgeport team that entered the matchup having won five games in a row.
The Bulls’ defense, which had allowed only a little over 13 points per game in their last four wins, gave up 35 points and 521 total yards. The 6-foottall, 190-pound back had a season-high 30 carries. Seemingly getting stronger as the game went on, Gilmore helped cap the victory with a 24-yard run, running over a couple of would-be defenders and even hurdling a Bridgeport player, before finding his way to the Graham 37-yard line.
