Grace honored at Booster Bash

Wed, 08/17/2016 - 6:00 am
The annual Booster Bash is typically a joyous community pep-rally to kick off the fall sports season, but things took an emotional turn toward reverence Monday night when Steers head coach Kenny Davidson announced that Graham’s helmets would feature a “TG” emblem to honor coach Tommy Grace, who passed away this summer. “We miss him so much,” Davidson told the crowd while fighting tears in a heartfelt speech.“We had to do something to honor him.” Davidson presented a helmet to Grace’s widow, Debra, while the ample crowd at Newton Field gave a standing ovation for the beloved coach, his wife, and the helmet sticker honoring him. Other highlights from the Booster Bash included performances by the Bella Blues drill team, the Rompin’ Stompin’ Big Blue Band and the Graham cheerleaders. All levels of Graham’s football, volleyball and cross country teams were introduced on the field along with the training staff. The Booster Bash was also a chance for the Graham Athletic Booster Club to offer memberships to those interested. (Leader photos by Travis Lisle)
