Graham’s golf program had been off to a hot start this season and the Steers as well as the Lady Blues put on a show in their respective tournaments this week.
The Steers as a whole finished first in the tournament Monday, March 3 with veteran leaders on the team putting up stellar individual performances.
“We’ve played as well as you could hope,” head coach Michael Todd said. “We’ve played two tournaments and finished first in both of those tournaments.”
Graham went into the Steers invitational with a high amount of expectation after finishing first at the River Creek tournament in Burkburnett.
The team as a whole shot 320 in that tournament and Jagger Nees finished second shooting a 70.
In this tournament, the Steers managed to top their first place score by two points for a 322 and the Steers saw two of their individual athletes at the top of the leaderboard.
Nees for the second straight tournament finished in second place shooting a 75 at the Steers invitational while Lucas Todd came in first place with a score of 71.
Other top finishers for the Steers in this tournament were Karson Willingham, who finished in fifth place after shooting an 84 on the course. Trevor Holland and Jordan Ginn rounded out the Steers top 20 finishers with Holland shooting a 92 and Ginn shooting a 96.
Willingham in particular took a big jump on the leaderboard for Graham, improving his score by eight points.
On top of this, Graham’s second team finished fourth in the tournament after shooting a 380 with Bryce Walker at the top of that team's leaderboard, finishing ninth while shooting an 88.
Jack Van Winkle, Hunington Smart and Jack Menard rounded out the leader board for the Steer’s second team. Van Winkle placed right behind Walker at 10th with a final score of 89 while Smart came in at 24th posting a 101 and Menard came in at 26th finishing with a final score of 102.
Additionally, the Lady Blues participated in the Burleson Elks JV Golf tournament Wednesday, March 4 and also came out with solid performances.
The team finished in second place on the day with a score of 394 and Jacie Trice along with Adde Fade were top performers as individuals. Trice finished second at the tournament after she shot an 89 while Fade finished in sixth with a score of 96.
