The Graham tennis team once again fought hard against Vernon, the latest opponent of their district schedule, however the team couldn’t get the job done as the Steers and Lady Blues teams lost 17-2.
On the doubles side of things, there were some bright spots. A few teams on both the boys and girls side of things were able to put up a sufficient fight against their opponents, just coming up a bit short.
Probably the most valiant effort on the doubles side of things came from the Lady Blues duo of Jade Dospapas and Kline Krupp. Both athletes have had strong performances individually on the girls singles board, but on the doubles side, they only lost narrowly to their Vernon opponents 8-6.
Other notable performances came from Stacey Gonzalez and Hope Jones of the Lady Blues and Keigan Garland and Brooklyn Tarsoaga of the Steers who each were able to win three sets as a team respectively in their losses.
Unfortunately for the mixed doubles team of Brodey Mills and Olivia Buckley, it simply wasn’t their day. The team was overcome by their Vernon opponents losing 8-1 on the day.
On the singles side of things, the only two wins on the day for Graham came from the Lady Blues side of things.
Jade Dospapas, who continues to stay at the top of the leaderboard on the Lady Blues side of things, picked up a victory over her opponent with a dominant 8-1 win.
Right below her in the second spot on the leaderboard is Stacey Gonzalez, who picked up the second and final win on the day for the team as a whole with a 9-8 victory in extra sets.
Also, while it ultimately did not result in a win, the number six singles player on the boys side of things, Jordan Miranda, only barely lost to his opponent as well in extras 9-8.
The team picks things up again back at home Tuesday, Sept. 23, against Bowie at 4 p.m.
