The Graham tennis team traveled on the road to Brownwood for their final meet of non-district play. Unfortunately for the Steers and Lady Blues, the team was not able to pick up a win.
The team didn’t go down without a fight though. On the doubles side of things, the team picked up three wins between the boys and the girls.
The Lady Blues top team of Jade Dospapas and Kline Krupp led the way picking up an 8-2 win over their opponents. This was followed by a closer battle between Brownwood and the team of Hope Jones and Manjot Humpal, but they were also able to pick up a victory 8-4.
The lone win on the Steers side of things came from the team of Jordan Miranda and Raife Bishop who matched the win total of Jones and Humpal with an 8-4 victory.
The Lady Blues side of things continued to keep the team competitive in the singles portion of the match. Players like Dospapas, Stacey Gonzalez, Jones, Humpal, and Lauren White all picked up key wins in order to keep the team in the meet.
Ultimately though, it was not enough as the team narrowly lost to the Lions and Lady Lions 11-8 on the day.
Despite this though, the team did finish with a plus .500 record at the end of non-district play with a 6-5 win/loss record.
The team has experienced its ups and downs over the course of the first month of play, but now their focus we’ll be fully on the district schedule coming up. The district scheduled kicks off at 4 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 4 at Iowa Park.
