The school year is officially back at Graham High School. The first day of scheduled classes kicked off this week and for the athletic and UIL programs, they celebrated the start of the new year with their annual booster bash event.

This event took place Monday, Aug. 11, run as always by the Graham Athletic Booster Club. Club president ZT Burkett said he was pleased with the overall turnout of the event.

“I think it was good tonight,” Burkett said. “I think we moved it to later tonight for the athletes and coaches but made it a little cooler for the parents. I think it worked out pretty good.”

The gates opened at Newton field at 7 p.m. where those in attendance were greeted to information booths as well as a merchandise stand to get the latest Steers and Lady Blues apparel.

The information booths were for those in the community to become more knowledgeable, and potentially more invested, in the various clubs and activities offered at the high school. Various other local businesses and media outlets presented themselves at the bash as well such as the local radio station.

Children were given plenty to do such as jumping around and having fun on the various bounce houses that were put up for their enjoyment.

Athletes got to take early photos under the large inflatable tunnel that the football team will run out of as well.
Parents also donated various assortments of peanut butter and jelly for sandwiches the athletes can have for free during the season.

Athletes and Cheerleaders gathered at midfield while the band played the fight song and other practiced numbers from the stands.

Burkett, along with coaches, faculty and GHS staff then went on to present each of the athletes who will represent Graham ISD during the fall sports season, with parents and supporters cheering on from the stands.

“This kind of signifies the kick off to a new year and it's just fun,” Burkett said. “Everyone is excited for something new.”

With the booster bash come and gone, supporters in the community can now officially welcome in a new school year of athletics and learning.
