Graham, Newcastle athletes selected as FCA All-Stars
Multiple athletes from both Graham and Newcastle and one Graham coach have been selected to participate in the Big Country Fellowship of Christian Athletes all-star games this summer.
From Graham, head boys basketball coach Kris Hise will be part of the coaching staff for the red basketball team. The five Graham athletes are Kaleb Crawford, Hannah Hollingsworth, Olga Morales, Tyson Weaver and Talan Yowell.
Newcastle will be represented by a trio of seniors in Mya Cabrera, Ty Strawbridge and Isaac King.
The Big Country FCA All-Star Festival is an annual event featuring some of the top senior student-athletes participating in one of six sports: football, basketball, volleyball, baseball, softball and cheerleading. This year marks a special event as it will be the 25th anniversary of the All-Star Festival, which began as a football all-star game but has brought on the other sports since then.
In football, Crawford and King will represent their schools on the red team while Yowell will play on the blue team. Strawbridge and Weaver will both play on the red basketball team, which has Hise as part of the three-person coaching staff.
Cabrera and Morales will oppose each other on the volleyball court with Cabrera playing for the red team while Morales will be on the blue team. Hollingsworth will participate in cheerleading for some of the all-star games. The coaches met in Abilene back in January to draft athletes onto their respective teams.
The men’s basketball game will take place Saturday, June 8 in Brownwood. Both the volleyball and football all-star games will be played a week later Saturday, June 15 in Abilene at Shotwell Stadium.
The Big Country Fellowship of Christian Athletes serves communities spread across a 37-county area. This festival features more than 350 athletes in these counties who represent their schools in a way that aligns with the FCA values. The FCA All-Star Festival celebrates not only athletic excellence but also the values of faith, character and community.
