The Graham High School track season came to an end last weekend at the 4A Region I track meet in Lubbock. GHS was represented in 11 events over the two-day track meet that took place April 29-30 at Lowrey Field.

Mary Lyndell Graham set a new school record for her time in the 1600. Her fifth-place finish at 5:25.09 bests the previous record of 5:26.9 set by Erin Stuckey at the 2003 state track meet. Emma Parker and Lillian Graham set personal records in the 400 and 800. Lillian Graham represented GHS’s top finisher with her fourth-place finish in the 800.

“We thought the Graham Track athletes represented very well. Not everything went as well as hoped but it seldom does at a meet as highly competitive as the regional championships,” GHS Track coach Jim Walton said. “We had several season bests and personal bests at this meet. It was particularly strong this year. We are very proud of all the team members, particularly proud of our senior class. What a great group of young people and what a great job they have done for Graham Track over the last four years and particularly this year.  We took a number of freshmen out to Lubbock this year and hopefully that will be a great experience for them in their future track careers.”
