Graham’s tennis team opened their district schedule this past week on a road trip against Iowa Park. However, it wasn't the team’s best day as they lost 17-2 across their matches.
That isn’t to say that there weren’t bright spots on the day however. Keigan Garland was able to pick up the lone win for the Steers’ side of things with a victory over his opponent in a tight 8-6 contest.
Garland came into this season as the number four player on the boys side of the bracket and has consistently grown into an every week match winner for the team.
Jade Dospapas was once again excellent at the top of the Lady Blues Bracket as well, picking up a dominant win over her opponent 8-2.
Dospapas has been a consistent source of excellence for the varsity tennis team. This is her second straight season at the top of the girls leaderboard and she will continue to try to carry her success into a potential district playoff berth.
Last season, Dospapas represented the Lady Blues in the regional tournament for tennis during the spring.
Also, while it didn’t count towards the final score, Raife Bishop also picked up a victory in his seventh spot matchup.
While no other Graham players were able to secure wins for the team on the day, multiple players didn’t go down without a fight.
Brooklyn Tarsoaga got into a very tight matchup against his singles opponent losing narrowly 8-5.
Both Stacey Gonzalez and Olivia Buckley also put up valiant efforts in their 8-4 losses.
Buckley and Brodey Mills also made it a battle in their mixed doubles match, but ultimately came up just shy, losing 8-4.
After playing Tuesday, Sept. 9, at Burkburnett, the team picks things up again at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 16, at home against Vernon.
