Graham tennis shows growth in loss

Although Krum left Graham with a 11-8 victory on Thursday night, the overall match was much tighter than what the final score suggests.

The Graham High School tennis team pushed the Bobcats in nearly every game, as two of the sets were decided in super tiebreakers.

The girls doubles team of Grace Miller and Ashley Villalva nabbed a victory for Graham, fighting off Krum, 8-3.

Hailey Armstrong gave her team a point by defeating Krum’s Lilly Glasschroeder 8-3 while Aimee McShan won her set handily 8-0.

The Lady Blues tandem of Adri Arredondo and Aimee McShan took a tight 8-6 win over the Lady Bobcats team of Rachel Felthy and Hannah Neale by a score of 8-6.

It was a strong early season match, especially for the Lady Blues. Graham had 11 girls singles/ doubles teams competing and 8 of the 11 came away with wins for head coach Matt Birdwell.

Arredondo, Graham’s number one girl participant, took a 8-3 win over Caitlin Harlbut in girls singles action.

Karen Gutierrez, Nayeli Ramirez and Yanelie Ramirez also competed for the Lady Blues on the day.

Wyatt Westerman, one of the few boys with varsity experience, defeated his singles’ counterpart 8-3, while Ty Dunnam defeated his foe by a score of 8-6.
