Graham tennis teams falls to Iowa Park in fall tennis match

Despite winning only two of the 19, the Graham fall tennis team competed Sept. 18 at the Graham Tennis Courts. The Steers and Lady Blues held their own against a deep and experienced Iowa Park squad.

While the fall tennis season focuses on team scores, the spring is all about tournaments and individual performances. Even though it may not show up in the results, a young tennis team is getting several opportunities to grow with District 6-4A action underway.

Ben Tovar and Spencer McHenry nabbed a boys’ doubles victory for Graham, fighting off Iowa Park’s Legend Hammel and Ethan Bish 8-3.

Manuel Oregon defeated his singles’ counterpart 8-3 to earn the other win for head coach Matt Birdwell.

The lone Graham mixed doubles team of Dave Price and Aimee McShan nearly took out the tantrum of Stephen Nemetz and Sarah Gumm, but lost 8-6 in a back-and-forth affair.
