GRAHAM— The Graham High School baseball team’s 6-1 victory over district rival Vernon set up a Tuesday night showdown with Iowa Park to potentially determine the outright Region 1 District 6 champion. Following that 6-1 victory over Vernon last Friday, and Iowa Park’s 14-1 drubbing of Burkburnett, the Steers (6-2) and Hawks (7-1) are now poised to determine whether the Hawks will be the outright champions or whether Graham can beat them, thus forcing a three-way tournament for the championship, which would then include Burkburnett in the mix. “We come up there with a much more aggressive approach, which has really helped us a lot,” Graham senior Chance Hornsey said. “Tonight, we came out a little slow. That’s all right. We were just getting used to the pitcher, but as soon as we got used to him we were dangerous. We have a dangerous offense and our mentality lately has been, get out there get on top, swing aggressively and don’t try and get a walk.” For the rest of this story, subscribe to our print or online edition.
