The Graham Soccer Association’s All-Stars were in action for the final official tournament of the spring postseason. The Big Country Spring Fling was last Saturday in Abilene.

The Big Country Soccer Association hosted the tournament and over 50 teams showed up. The GSA sent six teams to the event. Those teams include two U8 girls teams that played 4-versus-4 and two U8 boys teams that played 4v4. One U11 coed team competed in 11v11 and one U14 coed team played in 11v11, as well.

This tournament was scored differently than the past two. Wins and losses were not as important as points this week. Each team got the opportunity to play three games on Saturday.

Graham didn’t qualify for the championship round in any league, but all teams were competitive in scoring points and putting wins on the board. Some of the Graham teams had third and fourth place finishes.

The GSA will be putting on their own invitational tournament for the fall 2016 season in Graham. Registration for the fall season is open at www.grahamsoccer.net.

The next major soccer action in Graham comes June 27-July 1. Challenger Sports will be putting on British Soccer Camps for all age levels in Graham. Camps are available for ages three to 18. The soccer camp is one of the most popular soccer camps in the country.

The camp offers different foot skills, technical drills, tactical practices, freestyle soccer, small-sided games and coached scrimmages. World Cup style games are scheduled to be held every day that give the campers the opportunity to ‘adopt a country’ and learn about their ‘cultures and customs.’

Registration for the camp can be completed at www.grahamsoccer.net or applications can be picked up at the local school offices.
