The Lady Blues clinched their ticket to the postseason in a 4-2 win over the Mineral Wells Lady Rams.

The pivotal game of their season was capped off with a signature moment from the team’s lone senior Zoey Harrell.

Based on the results of their series, the potential playoff spots for both teams had yet to be decided. The teams held an emergency tie breaker game Friday, April 18 at a neutral site in Graford.

The game certainly lived up to the sense of urgency. The teams were deadlocked in a 2-2 tie going into the seventh and final inning. Head coach Adam Arrington credited his team for making the fundamental defensive plays necessary to not lose control of the contest.

Equally, Mineral Wells was keeping themselves in the matchup with quality defense and pitching of their own. Eventually, something was going to have to give with both their seasons on the line.

When the Lady Blues needed to rise to the moment, Harrell met it.

It looked as if the game would be going to extras as the Lady Blues had two outs on offense. First Baseman Larissa Warren kept the inning alive with a double to represent the winning run. Now it was Harrell’s turn.

She waited for her moment to strike with a 3-0 pitch count, when she had the opportunity she took it. Harrell sent a ball flying into center field, Mineral Wells center fielder raced back for the ball, then slowly eased up as she realized it wouldn’t stay in the field.

The ball cleared the fence as Harrell raced around the bases with a smile on her face. The disbelief of the Mineral Wells crowd was drowned out by the cheers of Harrell’s Lady Blues teammates who mobbed her as she crossed home plate.

“If she’s looking fastball down the middle and she likes it, she’s our best hitter on the team so might as well give her the green light,” Arrington said. “Sure enough she liked what they threw and she put it over the right center fence.”

The Lady Blues will now wait to see who they face in the first round of the postseason. Once other tiebreakers games wrap up, the team will have an official opponent and date set.
