Possum Kingdom Lake was left off the 2021 Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series schedule. The series has competed at Hell’s Gate, located on the lake, for five years after skipping the lake in 2019. It was slated to return in 2020 before the COVID-19 pandemic forced the cancellation of the season.

Hell’s Gate misses out on 2021 Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series
The Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series will make a return this weekend after a one-year absence. Missing from the 2021 calendar is Possum Kingdom Lake and Hell’s Gate. The tour kicks off this weekend in Saint-Raphaël, France.
The tour had announced a return to Hell’s Gate in January last year after skipping the spot in 2019. It was to be the sixth year competing at Possom Kingdom Lake in the series’ 13 years. The 2020 tour was canceled in April of last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Tour organizers cited fan support in what was supposed to be a return in 2020.
“The arrival of the World Series in these parts has been cause for celebration in five of the last six seasons, with thousands of fans descending on the location in boats, kayaks and paddleboards for a sporting lake party. Tunes and chatter subside only for the three-second acrobatic dives, before raucous applause and cheers greet the athletes upon their resurfacing,” the announcement stated.
