How the Steers’ opponents fared in 2021: Old High
As the high school football season approaches, The Graham Leader has been taking past and present looks at the teams on the Graham Steers 2022 schedule. The Wichita Falls High School Coyotes will host the Steers Thursday, Sept. 29 at Memorial Stadium in Wichita Falls.
The first three-quarters of the season-opener looked how the Coyotes wanted to play all season. Senior running back Bricen Vialpando carried the team with three rushing touchdowns, including a 61-yard touchdown run in the second quarter. According to Max Preps, the Coyotes ran the ball 38 times, showing a renewed dedication to the running game.
Vialpando’s 10-yard touchdown run with 8:42 left in the game gave the Coyotes a 23-14 lead. The lead was vanquished with 6:20 remaining on the clock following a 41-yard pass by Chisholm Trail’s Jesse Cantrell to Jaden Fisher. The score was Fisher’s second 40-plus yard touchdown score of the game.
The following week at Azle, the Coyotes could not get anything going on offense and struggled equally on defense in a 41-7 loss. The game was an emotional win for Azle, who was playing the first game since the death of Jack Schwantz, a senior who died in a plane crash two weeks earlier.
