The JV Lady Blues kicked off their regular season against the Haskell Lady Indians this past week, starting the season on a high note with a win.
The game took place Tuesday, Nov. 11 at home and the Lady Blues came out with the victory 45-15.
After both teams missed a few shots to start the contest, the Lady Blues eventually kicked things off with Carmen McGee picking up a steal and McKynley Corley finding Addison Gober on the other end for a layup to make it 2-0.
That lead would eventually jump up to 17-0 after scores from players like Corley, Gober, Maddyx Marin, Jannelle Kinney, Landree Smith and Allee Utterback.
Those players, and more, for Graham continued to shine in the second quarter by playing stellar defense and forcing more fast break scores to make it a 27-5 lead at halftime.
Taylan Locker had a nice midrange jumper early in the third quarter to help extend the Lady Blues’ lead, and ultimately the team scored 12 more points in the quarter while only allowing two more points defensively, going up 39-7 into the fourth.
Emerson Taylor, Marin and Utterback scored the final three buckets of the game to help the team out to 45 points.
The Lady Indians tried to put up a late game fight but the lead was already insurmountable and the Lady Blues came out with the dominant win.
“We’ve got to get better at blocking out but they did a really good job keeping them (Haskell) off the boards,” Coach Hunter Hayes said. “We’ve just got to get better on our passing and our handling.”
The Lady Blues’ next contest after their matchup Saturday, Nov. 15 is at 5 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 18 at home against Windthorst. The Lady Blues will look to stay on a roll to start the year.
