The JV Lady Blues fought well in their district matchup against the Brock Lady Eagles but ultimately couldn’t come out with the victory, dropping the match in two sets.
Despite getting swept, the score was close in both sets with the Lady Blues narrowly losing 26-24 in extras in set one, and only fell by three points in their set two loss, 25-22.
Paizlee Evans was great in the early goings for Graham in this match after starting things off with a point to help the team go up 1-0 in the first set. She also contributed to multiple points after that, such as a kill from the right side of the net and an ace at the service line.
Hudson Wright was also once again a force offensively for the team. Despite her power in the front row, she actually fooled the defense throughout, mixing in kills with soft tipped balls for points to help the team go up 7-4 in the early goings, while also keeping them in the fight later in the set.
Braylee Wenninger also had an impact play in the first set with an ace at the service line, and Madi LeFevre had a key defensive play with a big block down the stretch.
Set two saw those players continue to make impacts along with others as well. Makenzie Vacante was solid at the service line, earning points for Graham as the front row was putting in work to pick up key blocks.
Some of those blocks came from duos like Evans and McKynley Corley, along with LeFevre and Evans. Collins Weil also kept the defense on their toes, staying aggressive offensively for multiple kill attempts.
While the team ultimately wasn’t able to win this match, coach Courtney Wright remains confident in the team’s playing ability.
“I told them that game could have gone either way,” Wright said. “I think when they come to our place we can beat them.”
After playing Tuesday, Oct. 7 against Mineral Wells, the team picks things up at 6 p.m. Friday, Oct. 10, on the road against Brownwood.
