The Lady Blues took on the Brock Lady Eagles Friday and came up short losing 7-3.

Despite the loss, junior varsity head coach Casey Williams found silver linings in the performance.

“We scored more, we held them to less. That means we’re improving,” Williams said to her team after the game.

Unfortunately for the Lady Blues, they fell into a deep hole in the top of the second which ended up being insurmountable. After already being down 2-0 going into the frame, the Brock offense ripped off a leadoff double, after which the runner advanced to third on and scored on a series of wild pitches.

A single into left and a fielding error led to another run scored in the same frame and a 4-0 Lady Eagles Lead. Brock went on to score two more runs in the frame off of fielding errors by Graham and solid contact.

Even though the team fell into such a deficit, Williams said this is an improvement from the team’s previous performance against Brock.

“I think we did a lot better than we did the last time we played them,” Williams said. “The last time I think it was 13-2. So we played a lot better than we did last time which means we’re improving.”

After falling down 7-0 going into the bottom of the third the team finally started to answer with runs of their own. The Graham offense scored on a sacrifice fly to get on the board with their first run.

The highlight play of the game came off the bat of Peyton Petty. Petty let loose on a pitch that turned into a bases clearing triple scoring Natalie Hunter and Hannah Mason on the base paths.

Ultimately, Williams treat this season as a learning process for her players to become familiar with in game situations and improve their skills. The goal is for these skills to translate as these young players will be called up in bigger spots for the Varsity team in years to come.

After taking on Brownwood at home, the Lady Blues will travel to Mineral Wells to take on the Lady Rams at 5 p.m. Friday, April 18.
