Lady Blues blank Lady Rams, clinch playoff berth
The Lady Blues clinched the playoffs and have nearly locked up third place in the district standings after a 10-0, five-inning home win over Mineral Wells Tuesday night. The win marked Reese Calhoun’s third shutout of the season.
Following a two-strikeout top of the first inning for Calhoun, the Lady Blues took the lead in the bottom half of the inning and never looked back. Paris Tate singled to open the bottom half of the inning. Tate reached second base on a sacrifice bunt attempt by Jaysea Rickels. After an error at first base, Rickels advanced to second base with Tate at third base. Meagan Brooks hit a double to center field to bring in Tate and Rickels.
Calhoun singled to give the Lady Blues runners on first and third. Following a pair of fielder’s choice outs at home and third base, Zoey Harrell lined out to end the inning.
Calhoun gave up a walk to open the second inning. Following a one-out single, the Lady Blues faced runners on first and third. Calhoun struck out the next two batters to end the top of the inning.
