After a bump in the road at Iowa Park, the Lady Blues are back on track. Playing with a full roster for the first time since the Lu Allen Memorial Volleyball Tournament, the Lady Blues returned to the win column with a 3-0 win at home Friday evening against Vernon. The Lady Blues defeated the Lady Lions 25-13, 25-15, 25-19 to improve to 4-1 in 5-4A.

The Lady Lions were only able to keep the set close in the opening points of the match. After a 2-2 tie, the Lady Blues outscored their visitors 10-4 to draw the match’s first timeout at 12-6. The timeout did little to stop the momentum as the Lady Blues increased their lead to eight points by the next timeout at 19-11. Senior Rachel Grimsley had four kills in that stretch. Four different Lady Blues earned kills in the final portions of the set with Braylee Mayes showing little rust in her first match since mid-August, earning two kills in the final six rallies.

The second set was not much better for the visiting Lady Lions.  The Lady Blues never trailed and opened with three straight points. Back-to-back kills by the Lady Lions cut the deficit to one before the teams began trading points. The Lady Lions were able to draw even at 10-10 after a swing by Trinity Gregory went out of bounds. That is as close as the Lady Lions could get as the Lady Blues closed the second set by outscoring the Lady Lions 15-5. Six different Lady Blues scored points in the run for a concentrated team effort.
